April 13th-Reid Fullmer

My husbands father passed away 11 years ago due to an unexpected pulmonary embolism. The whole family was in shock. Something i'm sure you don't ever prepare yourself for. I am amazed at this family though. I obviously wasn't apart of the family when it happened but to see where they are now is incredible. I never got to meet the famous Reid Fullmer but I feel like I know him, I've heard nothing but amazing and hilarious things about him. He could light up a room with his humor and wit and was respected by everyone who knew him. The thing that gets me the most is how much Caleb adored his dad. You can see it in his eyes everytime he talks about him. The other day I was watching some of their family home videos and caleb was always right by his dad, either on his lap or holding his hand, clinging to every word that he said and laughed at everything he did. His dad was his biggest fan and his best friend. He loved watching cabe play sports and just thought he was the best out there and wasn't ashamed to let others know about it. (I can see where caleb got all his confidence) :)
Caleb was at the tender age of 12 when he lost his dad. He hadn't learned everything that kids learn from their dad's yet. He wasn't going to be there to teach him how to use tools, wouldn't be at all his games, wouldn't receive letters from him on his mission, wasn't going to see him get married and start a family. But caleb remembers so much of what his dad taught him. Mainly by his actions. The way he treated his wife, led a life of service, always making others laugh and feel comfortable, and most importantly how to be a good dad. I am thankful for his example every day because of the boy I married.
During this pregnancy we felt that we should name this little boy Reid. He will be a constant reminder of the joy Grandpa Reid brought to the lives of his loved ones. I'm sure they are becoming quite aqainted as we speak :) I'm sure he will be honored to be named after a legend.

  4. I was working on our class blog and started checking in with everyone's blogs. Please don't think I'm a stalker but as I read your post I couldn't help but comment. :) First off I want to say congrats on the pregnancy! That's exciting, he'll be here before you know it. I think it's so very sweet that you're naming him Reid. From what I've learned over the past nine months, there's no doubt Grandpa Reid will be close by for your family and especially little Reid throughout his entire life. I couldn't help but think back to school at Madison and realize how well Caleb handled losing his dad. I'm sure it was extremely difficult and very few people understood how difficult it was.

I'm extremely happy for you two! Congrats again.

  5. Wow Kels! What a great post! I will agree with everything you said about Caleb being a great husband and dad (but just don't tell him :) ) He has taken such good care of you and I know he will do the same with Little Reid. Him and his grandpa are probably the best of friends and I'm sure he is teaching your baby a lot of amazing things. How cool! Good luck - we can't wait to meet him.

P.S. I love how Caleb is in 3rd position in his pic. He has been practicing hasn't he? :)

  7. Very sweet tribute to Reid. He really was a great man, and a fun uncle. We miss him so much. I have to agree with you, his kids are amazing examples to me and those around them and I'm sure they are making their dad proud. I can't wait to meet baby Reid. If he's anything like his grandpa, he'll be one special little boy.

  9. Hi, Kels!!! Your mom emailed me and let me know that little Reid made it here! Congrats!!! What a sweet post...I agree with Cath. Names matter. Two of my kids have the middle name Wray for that very reason, and Sadie has Mae after Kent's mom that passed away. It's a sweet way for them to connect to with their heritage. Hope you are doing well!! Love ya!
